My name is Michael Fartaoui (Chinese name 范德维), I am a 26-years-old Frenchman with a passion for social sciences and China. I had been the chance to be accepted for a PHD starting in September 2018 in Zhejiang University, which means I can do both.
I currently study urban planning, while my bachelor’s degree was focused on social sciences and my master’s degree on economics (obtained in Sciences Po Paris). These topics are indeed quite related; it is exciting to apprehend social and economic issues with different points of views and actions tools. I am currently focusing on characteristic towns (and more generally urban projects that belong to “comprehensive planning”) and smart cities.
I used to practice football and chess in clubs; I still play the former. My hobbies include hiking and drinking tea, which makes Hangzhou the perfect city for me.
